Welcome to our class blog
March 13, 2007
Hello and welcome to the BECA370 weblog for Spring 2007! Our class is exploring how the web and other online services are transforming the writing process.
Let’s hear (see? read?) what you have to say about reading and writing for the web, and how you have adapted to changes in new technology. Or not.
hello, I feel that online writing has changed in a sense, that we do not have to be formal all the time. There is a hidden langauge or really a slang that is used say when we write emails or instant message people. Things like LOL, or
can express how we feel or what we are doing. Things like that have made is easier or just open up a window to expressions online.
There is definitely a shorthand in online writing, and in the new media as a whole. I read the other day about teachers in New Jersey being very frustrated with students not knowing that text message shorthand is not appropriate for a school essay. Who can really say, though. Over time, it may well happen that what is now considered improper language may become so pervasive that it is forced into mainstream acceptance and put into Merriam Webster.
